About Sophie Alour

French saxophonist born 1974. Sophie Alour was born in 1974, she learned the saxophone by herself after she studied the clarinet at Quimper Music School in France. She learned jazz "on stage". In 2004, Rhoda Scott approached her to form her lady quartet, and the same year she played in the Wynton Marsalis' Big Band. She recorded her first album in 2005 'Insulaire', in 2007 she recorded 'Uncaged' with pianist Laurent Coq, double bass player Yoni Zelnik and drummer Karl Jannuska. She won several awards for this album and got the "Young Talent Django D'Or 2007". She has performed all around the world, exploring her repertoire, looking for its limits. She came back with 'Opus 3' in 2010 , closer to the jazz tradition. For her last album 'Géographie des rêves', Sophie Alour has decided to play with Yoann Loustalot (tp and flugelhorn), Nicolas Moreau (double bass), Stéphan Caracci (vibraphone) and Frederic Pasqua (drums). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sophie Alour (* 1975) ist eine französische Jazz-Saxophonistin und Komponistin. Alour begann mit 13 Jahren Klarinette an der Musikschule von Quimper zu lernen (die sie immer noch bisweilen spielt). Mit 19 Jahren wechselte sie zum Saxophon, das sie überwiegend autodidaktisch erlernte, ergänzt durch Kurse am CIM in Paris und IACP. 2000 war sie an der Gründung des „Vintage Orchestra“ beteiligt, mit u.a. Fabien Mary, Thomas Savy, Jerry Edwards und Yoann Loustalot (Album „Thad“ 2005). 2001 gründete sie ein Sextett mit Stéphane Belmondo und spielte in der Formation „Manita“ von Jean-Daniel Botta. Unter einer Bigband von Christophe Dal Sasso nahm sie das Album „Ouverture“ auf (mit den Belmondo Brüdern) und trat auf dem Festival von Marciac auf. 2004 spielte sie im Quartett von Rhoda Scott. Im selben Jahr trat sie auf dem Festival Jazz à Vienne auf, beteiligte sich an einem Projekt von Aldo Romano und spielte in der Bigband von Wynton Marsalis. 2005 erschien bei Nocturne ihr erstes Album unter eigenem Namen „Insulaire“, mit überwiegend eigenen Kompositionen und unter Beteiligung des Gitarristen Hugo Lippi, von Emmanuel Bex und Stéphane Belmondo. Mit der Elektro-Big Band von Benjamin Roy nahm sie „DJ Killer“ auf und 2006 mit dem Pianisten Alexandre Saada „Be where you are“. 2007 folgte ihr Album „Uncaged“ mit dem Pianisten Laurent Coq und dem Gitarristen Sébastien Martel. 2007 erhielt sie einen Django d’Or (Frankreich) als neues Talent.
