About Smetana Quartet

The Smetana Quartet (Smetanovo kvarteto) was a Czech classical string quartet. While still students, the musicians joined in 1943. The first concert was in November 1945. The disbanded in June 1989. Members were: Antonín Kohout, Jaroslav Rybenský, Jiří Novák, Josef Suk, Lubomír Kostecký, Milan Škampa and Václav Neumann. Until 1949 the members were part of The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
