The Sketchbook Quartet
About The Sketchbook Quartet
It started with some acoustic experimentation and such. Kevin Hull was pimp'n it all on the mandolin, Kyle Husmann was expanding his mad virtuoso violin skillz to bluegrass fiddling, and Danny Akin was lay'n down the blackbone with his funky bass stylings for both of them, just neither at the same time. The three all finally got together at Kevin's to jam, and there was born the Sketchbook Trio. Mando+Violin+Bass=a good start, but when it was apparent that a permanent guitarist would be required (Such notable musicians as Travis Bilenski from Wall to Wall Wisdom and the Zydians, Fred Le from Paystation, and teen bulgarian jazz master Pavel Vodenski have occasionally picked up the 6-strings for Sketchbook), indie rocker Alex Knudson was called upon to play their first "real" gig at Wilcox High School, and has been with the band ever since. Sketchbook has become a staple on the coffee house scene, and is building a reputation as one of the hottest folk-funky acoustic bluegrass jam bands around.
