About Silvia Josifoska & Band

Silvia Josifoska is the creme de la creme of the Slovak blues scene. She is recognized by the professionals on one hand and the one to admire for blues fans on the other hand. Similarly as her influences and inspirations, Etta James or Cassandra Willson, all forms of expressions based on blues spontaneity are natural to her. She kick-started her singing career with spirituals, later moved on to jazz and at present she opts for a blues touch. However, she is no stranger to rock or funk projects either. She prides herself with a distinctive mezzo-soprano and a dark timbre with such outstanding feeling. Her repertoire cannot go without classic blues standards (often in unconventional arrangements), as well as modern funk. Her first influence was the top Slovak blues musicians - Duro Turtev, J.Litecký-Svedo and Boboš Procházka, which later turned out into a fruitful collaboration. A never-ending inspiration to her is Etta James, Cassandra Willson, blues musicians John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guz or jazzmen Bobby McFerrin, Miles Davis and James Blood Ulmer. Besides major festivals such as Livin´blues, Bratislavské jazzové dni, Blues Alive (CZ), Blues v lese (CZ), Slovenský jazzový festival Košice, Valaský špalíèek (CZ - as guest of J. Blood Ulmer), or festival Nueva Europa (Italy) she regularly performs in Slovak and Czech clubs. Silvia also collaborates with top Slovak jazz musicians - Gabriel Jonáš, J. Burian, M.Zajko, M.Gašpar, I.Sabo and also with other international acts such as King George (USA), Stan The Man (UK) and others. She collaborated on other projects as well - J.Filip - 'Through the Window' (l996), P.Rowan - 'New Freedom bell (1999), J.Nohavica - 'My Sad Heart' (2000).
