About Screaming Corpse

Screaming Corpses was an experimental industrial band from Leer, Germany, that existed from October 1986 to April 1988. Initially formed by Stefan Knappe (Baraka H), Martin Gitschel, and Helge Siehl, the group began with five members before narrowing to four, eventually evolving into the influential drone project Maeror Tri. The group specialized in raw, primitive industrial experiments. In their earliest stages, they performed without any electricity in remote locations, most notably within a highway tunnel, using scrap metal and found objects for percussion. These sessions were focused on the physical resonance of acoustic spaces, predating their later shift toward processed guitar drones. During their brief existence, they operated their own DIY cassette label, Baracken Records. They released "Over My Dead Body!" (1987), featuring demo recordings distributed to a small circle of friends, and "A Different State of Consciousness" (1987). These early works represent the "archaic" roots of what would become the transcendental ambient style of the 1990s.
