About Sara Ontaneda

Sara Ontaneda Loor is an Ecuadorian-American singer-songwriter. She was born in Miami, FL on December 11, 1990 and currently resides in New York, NY. Her music mixes folk, R&B, and South American rhythms. Sara discovered her passion for music at a young age. At age seven she started piano lessons, and at age nine she joined her school's choir in Miami. At age 13, she moved to Guayaquil, Ecuador, where she learned that she was serious about music. She studied classical music in the conservatories in Guayaquil and, at the same time, discovered that she enjoyed contemporary music as well. Sara joined jazz and bossa nova bands, which led her to perform in important Ecuadorian venues, such as Diva Nicotina, Teatro Centro de Arte, and Teatro Sanchez Aguilar. It was during her teens that she began her singer-songwriter phase and recorded/produced her songs at a mentor's home studio, Susy Nickel Productions. Her love for music placed her in Berklee College of Music where she majored in comteporary writing and production. She graduated with honors and received scholarship awards for her efforts. In August 2014, Sara released her debut single "Pero hoy" under the Ecuadorian label CVRA LVDORVM. After a year of hard work, Sara finished her debut release, the EP Marte y Júpiter, where she took on the roles of songwriter, recording engineer, and producer. The EP was released on July 14, 2015, and is available both on CD and digitally. It received many positive reviews from outlets in Latin America and Spain. This led to her touring Ecuador and the US, including South by Southwest 2017, Outside the Box Boston, and South Florida Folk Festival. In March 2017, Sara released her debut full-length album Entre espacios y colores. It includes four English-language songs and five Spanish-language songs. The album blends South American, R&B, and alternative elements, which has been referred to as nu Latin. The album has been reviewed positively by many journalists within the US and Latin America. Huffington Post reviewed it as "an excellent album overall, with mainstream appeal...there's no fluff, just great nu-Latin jazz music. And Sara's voice is not to be missed."
