Barry Sadler (November 1, 1940 – November 5, 1989) was an American military veteran, author, actor, and singer-songwriter. Sadler served as a Green Beret combat Medic with the rank of Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Most of his work has a military theme, and he billed himself as SSG Barry Sadler, although his label credits read SSgt Barry Sadler. Sgt. Barry sadler was a member of the U.S. Army special forces (ABN). Commonly called the green berets because of the distintive headgear. The green beret is a highly trained group of men who risked their lives everyday by doing the specialized jobs of organizing, equiping and leading indigenious forces. Making them a ‘force multiplier’ for the u.S. Military. The army could not always admit to some tasks that needed to be completed, so the green berets would be ‘unofficially’ tasked with those jobs. Like jumping behind enemy lines to perform rescues and to gather intell on the opposing forces. In the vietnam conflict there were more medals (and more purple hearts) awarded to the special forces (green berets) than any unit in history. Dinstintive men.
