About Six Was Nine
Six Was Nine was a German rock, pop, and soul duo that became known in 1994 with the single "Drop Dead Beautiful". The group was formed by singer Achim Degen and guitarist Markus Tiedemann in Frankenthal, Rhineland-Palatinate. Both musicians had previously played in various bands and gained experience. In 1992 they released their first album "A Few Bold Strokes Of The Brush" on Virgin Records. In 1994 the album "Let It Come Your Way" followed, featuring two charting songs: "Drop Dead Beautiful" (written by Mick Leeson and Peter Vale) and "Surprise, Surprise" (written by Bobby Womack and Jim Ford). "Drop Dead Beautiful" reached number 36 in the Swedish charts for two weeks, its music video was broadcast on VIVA and MTV, and the track was also included on compilations such as "Bravo Hits 7". The album was produced by Mike Vernon. In 1996 they released the album "Walk With The Spirits", which also produced two charting singles: "Mission Of Love" (written by Andy Goldmark, J. D. Martin and Jamie Houston) and "Searching For A Soul" (written by Peter Vale, Michael Leeson, E. Chacon and C. Pettigrew). For live performances, Degen and Tiedemann were joined by Tommy Baldu (drums), Harald Schneck (keyboard), Wolfgang Harling (bass) and Sandie Wollasch (vocals). They appeared as the opening act for Tina Turner’s "Wildest Dreams World Tour" in 1996 in Belgium and the Netherlands, and also performed at various concerts in Germany. The final album, "Zen & Now", was released in 1998 on BMG. The music for the "Now" section was written by Degen and Tiedemann together with Michael Ries. Seven tracks were produced by Armand Volker. With the single "Turning Wheel" they achieved another chart success, though shortly after the duo disbanded. Degen and Tiedemann later performed together again in the band Cole.
