About SENSE OF PURPOSE

Sense Of Purpose hail from Melbourne, Australia. Playing a brand of modern old school hardcore with a message, the band played their first show in October 1999 and released their first full length CD, "A Matter Of Respect" in February 2001 with the previously unreleased e.p. "End Of A New Beginning" which was recorded in December '98 when the band was known as Nextstep, tacked onto to the end of the CD. In 2003, drummer Pete was brought up front with Chris to give the band a dual vocal attack. Pete had already earned a reputation as a vocalist with hardcore/grind outfit Stamanech 6.40. Good friend Grant Johns of Dying Breed, was brought in to fill the void on drums. The band released its second full length CD "Tomorrow's Too Late" in mid 2004 which also saw the band sign with UK hardcore label Go-Team Records who released the CD internationally later that year, with all new artwork. Soon after the band parted ways with original guitarist Leith, who can be found playing in In Name And Blood and brought in new guitarist Brad, who previously played in UK outfit Insight. With the line-up now solidified, the band headed to Complex Studios and recorded 7 songs of their brand of fast, posi hardcore. The new CD "Dismantled" was released in February 2006. Appropriately titled, this release was also the last for Sense Of Purpose as they decided to call it a day after almost 7 years. The band played its last show on 25th February, 2006 at Melbourne's RMIT University with good friends The Dead Walk, INAB, Procedure 286 and Go For Broke. Over the years SOP have played with a host of touring bands including: Agnostic Front (US), H20 (US), AFI (US), Cro-Mags (US), Terror (US), Ensign (US), No Fun At All (Sweden), Strife (US), Champion (US), Citizen Fish (UK), Agent Orange (US), Balance (NZ), Shank (Scotland), DSM (NZ), Shutdown (US), Good Clean Fun (US), Strike Anywhere (US), Dayglo Abortions (Can) and Vitamin X (Neth).
