About Ron Thompson & The Resistors

Guitarist Ron Thompson is not only a dazzling, multi-instrumentalist - he plays piano, harmonica, mandolin, and steel guitar - he also has one of the most intense stage presences we have witnessed. Rolling Stone describes him as "searing", while Guitar Player Magazine called him a "mind boggling talent". Born in Oakland, Ron has been playing the blues in the Bay Area since the early 70's, including seven appearances at the San Francisco Blues Festival. He has worked with such Blues legends as Lowell Fulson, Luther Tucker, Jimmy Reed, Etta James, Big Mamma Thorton and John Lee Hooker (who he toured with for five years). He has been the leader of several Bay Area bands, and now works with the Resistors, a duo that includes drummer Larry Vann and bassist Leonard Gill. The Bay Area Music Awards have twice selected them as the Best Blues Band of the year. In 1983, Thompson released his first CD with the Resistors, "Treat Her Like Gold" (Allegiance Records), a mixture of rock and blues. “Resistor Twister” (Blind Pig, 1987) and "Just Like A Devil" (Winner Records, 1990) showcase his variety of talents, from Delta style acoustic guitar to searing single note electric Blues leads. His most recent CD is “Magic Touch” (Poore Boy Records, 1998). This CD contains a wide range of blues styles and is a mixture of blues classics (Baby Please Don't Go) and originals (Ocean of Tears). According to reviewers, "Thompson hits a stage like a tornado, playing peerless slide guitar, quicksilver electric leads, squealing harmonica, pounding piano, and room-filling National steel, all the while singing with obvious passion, and rarely stopping for breath. Fans leave a Thompson show both amazed and elated."
