About Richard and the Young Lions

Richard and the Young Lions were a 1960s American garage rock band from Brooklyn, New York, led by lead vocalist Richard Tepp and harmonica player Mike Appel. Formed in 1965, they are best known for their regional hit single “Open Up Your Door,” which reached the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. Their music blended raw guitar riffs, energetic harmonies, and psychedelia, marking them as part of the early garage and proto-psychedelic scene. Though they disbanded in 1968, the band has been remembered in garage revival compilations and retrospectives highlighting their influence on later punk and psychedelic acts.
