About Rhythm Activism

Rhythm Activism, 'the band', was co-founded by Sylvain Cote and Norman Nawrocki in 1985 as a simple poetry/music ensemble. Eventually, Rhythm Activism could be found working with up to 45 other artists on the same stage in highly politicized, theatrical, musical productions. One of their specialties is good-time 'resistance culture'. They have a long history of working with grassroots, community groups to produce funny but hard-hitting songs and family theme shows about social justice. They give workshops about how to develop your own 'creative resistance' tools, and subvert meetings, the page, stage, airwaves, and TV with critical cultural content. The band has more than 36 releases worldwide and tours on request. They also love to party. Jesus Was Gay was released in the spirit of working towards a more just and fun world -- for everyone. Rhythm Activism are, unfortunately, no longer a band, but Norman Nawrocki is still active as a performer, sex educator, and author.
