Remember The Alamo consists of five members: Joel Hewett (vocals), Jamie A Lawson (guitar/backing vocals), Mark Baruffati (guitar), Darren Brown (bass guitar) and Duncan Ross (drums). They were formed under the name of Slightly Above Average by five high school students from Dundee, Scotland in mid-2005. Their humble beginnings involved practicing in the garage of their original drummer, Jonathan Spink, who left the band a couple of months later due to musical differences. The band recruited Duncan Ross as a replacement, and began practicing in the more prestigious location of Stage 2000 rehearsal studios. They played their first gig in December 2005 at their school's annual Battle of the Bands competition. Their set consisted mostly of covers, plus one Lawson-Hewett original, "On My Own Again", written several years earlier for reasons neither can now recall. Based on crowd reaction, they actually did reasonably well in this competition, though they lost out to Jamie Lawson's other band, the now defunct The Fool. This performance also contained a guest appearance from Gréboy and MC Mackerel, who are members of Dundee's most notorious rap combo, Manly United. Since then, they have concentrated mostly on writing their own material, and they now have a relatively sizeable catalogue of original songs. The band, who have now moved on to University, hope to secure more gigs soon. They have also undergone numerous name changes in late 2006, including Cross Row and The Phoenix, before settling (for now) on Remember The Alamo - inspired by a local garage.....
