Pukes

About Pukes

Pukes were a Misfits influenced hardcore punk band from the Riverside/Inland Empire, Ca. area in the late 1990's. Existing roughly from 1998-1999 (in its recorded incarnation at least), the band started as a Misfits cover band before some reshuffling brought the "original" line-up into existence. 4 song were recorded in late '98 for a split release with fellow locals West Coast Stiffs (later the Rotting Stiffs) whom they shared members with. In '99 original bassist and part of the vocal attack, Rudy, departed the band for both the Stiffs & newer band Delinquents. Going with Rudy was some of the bands energy and diversity. Rudy, while the bassist, did add a fair amount of vocals, even singing lead on a few songs with vocalist Bryan taking over bass (Destroy, later re-worked as Fuck James Dean, and This Place were Rudy vocal tracks in the live show). Shortly before departing the track "Jesus Not Jesus" was recorded for a Compilation on local label End of the World Records. Rudy was replaced and 10 songs (2 covers, 3 ep songs re-recorded and 5 new- the new included Jesus Not Jesus, of which the original version was never released) were recorded for a potential lp. The band began to veer in a direction towards more Rock/Pyschobilly influences with lyrics starting to take on a more Misfits feel. The band played some more shows, but the chemistry was different and for a variety of reasons the band would end with drummer Nick focusing on the Rotting Stiffs. Vocalist Bryan would end up joining the Rotting Stiffs as their bassist after the Pukes demise. Around '99/'00 guitarist Kenny would briefly revive the band with himself on vocals/guitar. It's been a very long time, but a line-up practiced with Kenny, Bryan now on bass, and the drummer of Subversion. A party may have been played, but the band quickly unraveled and ended for good. 1st/Original Line-up: Bryan Majer: Vocals, Bass (live) Rudy Navarette: Bass, Vocals (live lead on Destroy & This Place) Kenny Chadwick: guitar, Vocals (lead on 1st verse of Johnny's Dead) Nick Moniz: Drums Recordings: Riverside Chaos Split ep Jesus Not Jesus for End of the World Records comp. 2nd Line-up: Dan Woods: Bass Rest of line-up remained the same Recordings: 10 song Unreleased "Album" Members went a lot of directions- Rudy & Nick were already in the Rotting Stiffs. Bryan would join later. Rudy was also in the band Delinquents/Point A.
