PLANET P

About PLANET P

Singer/songwriter Tony Carey, who makes his home in Germany, recorded two progressive pop/rock albums in the early '80s under the group name Planet P (later re-christened Planet P Project). The self-titled debut album from 1983 (with Carey writing all the songs, playing most of the instruments, and singing lead vocals on all but one song) features Carey's most commercially successful track "Why Me", which enjoyed very heavy rotation on MTV in its early days. The album combines a strong pop sensibility and hooks with keyboard- & guitar-driven progressive rock. Other noteworthy songs include "Static", "Armageddon", "Send It In A Letter," and "Only You and Me" (with guest lead vocals by David Thomas). The album's production value is reminiscent of Jeff Lynne's on The Electric Light Orchestra's album "Time". Tony Carey has recorded many albums over the years, including "The Boystown Tapes".
