Pete Grove
About Pete Grove
Pete Grove crafts a tech house hybrid sound that embraces electro, ambient, soul, funk and nu jazz downtempo while capturing the context of both techno and house with a style that stretches minimalist musical elements into lush orchestrations. Emerging directly from a college music production program to work in publishing and admininstration for Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva's Plus 8 Records, to running his own label Woodwork Recordings, and eventually landing jobs as a live sound technician for orchestral, theatrical, world and pop music acts and full scale production shows, he brings a broad scope of industry experience to the realm of electronic dance music. Beginning in 1992, known as Sunkissed, Pete began his early musical experiments with a focus on playing live. Within a few years and several gigs, Sunkissed became known as one of several pioneers of Canada's live PA scene. With an innovative hardware-based dual sequencer setup, Sunkissed was recognized as one of the first PA acts to utilize midi fader box control as the centerpiece of his live interface. This technique logically became a revolutionary step in virtually all live pa and digital dj setups. After playing coast to coast across Canada, and after a few vinyl outings on Definitive and Woodwork Recordings, Sunkissed travelled abroad to grace european festivals such as Austria's Steirischer Herbst and Peace Parade. Other highlights include sharing the stage with influential acts such as Autechre, Richie Hawtin, Surgeon, DJ Hell, Alex reece, Sofa Surfers, John Acquaviva, Jonah sharpe, Aux 88 and at one point experimenting in a collaborative dj and live PA performance with Jeremy P Caulfield, then known as Lotus. In 1998, Pete Grove started Woodwork Recordings contributing to an emerging hybrid style that broadly became known as tech house. Woodwork's crossover dancefloor tracks were well received in North America and in Europe regularly gracing the charts of a broad range of djs from trance, techno, progressive, house, and tech house genres. Pete Grove's releases and remixes have appeared on Definitive Recordings, Guardian Angel, Woodwork Recordings, Sunkissed Records, Spiritual Records, Nordic Trax, Future Groove, Plastic city, Shoreline Records, and Thoughtless Music with additional licensing to the National Film Board of Canada. In 2002, Pete began what turned into a 7-year hiatus, pursuing other musical genres and personal projects. Finally in 2009, a return to the familiar realm of tech house was inspired by his strong appreciation for the depth and versatility Noah Pred's Thoughtless Music. Upon completing his newest tech house projects, Pete immediately contacted Noah Pred with an envigorated motivation to contribute to the Thoughtless catalogue. Grove is now directing all efforts toward crafting a modern crossover sound, seeking interesting collaboration opportunites, and reintegrating himself into the live circuit with a show that will combine a unique approach to live PA, live remixing, and interactive musical visual components. www.candlewaxcouture.com
