About Pete Cummings

Pete Cummins was born in Dublin Ireland in 1946 and was an avid fan on popular music of the day. When the rock and roll from America reached Ireland he was hooked and in 1964 he bought his first guitar and started a group with school friends Alan Cullen and Dots Gorman. The band was called The Stepping Stones and they started to play the local hops and beat clubs and then changed their name to The Circle. Pete also started another band called The Grass Band and studied flute and music theory at The Royal Academy of Music in Dublin. In 1968 he Joined Granny's Intentions another Irish band and recorded an album "Honest Injun" for Deram records in London. After a few years playing Bass with Granny's he was recruited by folk singer Donovan and played bass with him.In 1976 he started a band The Fake with another Irish singer Freddie White,by now playing guitar and singing but left the band to go to live in the US. After returning to Ireland he took a long rest from gigging but in 1985 he was back on the road with a new band formed with folk singer Johnny Moynihan, This was The Fleadh Cowboys and after Moynihan left Pete made the band very successful with legendary weekly shows at Dublin's Olympia Theatre. Tours and support slots with Bob Dylan, U2, Emmylou Harris etc followed. They released two albums, High Ace to Heaven, and Time of Your Life, on Sidekick Records. In 2009 Pete by now a formidable songwriter, released his first solo CD The Brilliant Architect.
