About Penny Arkade

Penny Arkade, a folk/'sixties west coast' band from Los Angeles, CA., United States, were a brief but fascinating organization centered around songwriting folkies Chris Ducey and Craig Smith. Pairing up after auditions for a TV pilot, the duo cut a single for Capitol: 'Isha' b/w 'I Need You'. Bass player Don Glut came on board when a move to electricity beckoned, for which Mike Nesmith recommended fellow Texan Bobby Donaho (formerly with Corpus Christi's The Bad Seeds, of 'A Taste Of The Same' fame). Indeed, Nesmith was unfailingly generous in his patronage of Penny Arkade - Smith's 'Salesman' was recorded by The Monkees themselves - but the album's worth of sessions he cut for the group in 1967 and 1968 had no takers, and thus never saw a release during its lifetime.
