About Paul Velocity

Paul Velocity has been a DJ for 9 solid years, starting back when he was only 15 years old. In the mid- nineties, Paul Velocity was heavily influenced by the sounds of happy hardcore and began to develop a taste for feel good tunes, rolling bass lines and hands-in-the air piano riffs. When it started out for him it was all about the feel good vibe and that is still true in his music today. The hardcore scene began a rapid decline during 1998 and so Paul’s attention turned to the more diverse sounds of UKGarage. UKG was still in its infancy then and was only just starting to get recognition on the underground scene, but with the help of fellow DJs, Paul Velocity helped to push it forwards on RenegadeFM during the late nineties. The Garage scene was a good step towards influencing his style. That feel-good sound that was so sought after matured from happy hardcore pianos and stabs into soulful Garage vocals, intelligent beats and breaks. As the millennium turned, Paul Velocity progressed on to organising events and helped to run the under 18’s event Club Empire in Guildford during 2000 and 2001, a 1500 capacity venue headlining some of the most well known DJ/Producers of the time. Paul has had the privilege to work alongside his hardcore heroes of Slipmatt, Dougal, Sy, Nicky BlackMarket and more. During theses years the UKG scene turned ugly and was getting such a bad reputation that bars and clubs refused to play it in their venue. It was also getting stale and so it was time to change styles. Paul took the soulful vocal sounds of early garage that he liked so much and found his new home in the realms of funky house. There was still a passion for the feel good tunes and intelligent sound and so this change in music genre developed through artists such as Soul Avengerz, Junior Jack, Freemasons and Disco Darlings to name but a few. Moving on into the early years of the millennium, Paul Velocity not only wanted to play great music - he wanted to make it too. He has produced several bootlegs and remixes, played out on London’s famous KissFM and Kisstory Club Tours. These tracks (available for download) have received high appreciation from Streetboy and the crowd that dance to his tunes. After taking a year out of the DJ life between 2004 and 2005, Paul Velocity is now back on track and playing at a variety of venues and events. Very much a funky house DJ his music is upfront, cool, sexy, chunky and funky.
