About Paul Spencer

Paul Spencer is an American singer-songwriter, based in CT. Backed by The Maxines, his music is an amalgam of punk, power pop and folk rock. Critics often compare his early sound to that of The Replacements, The Clash and the New York Dolls. He has released three albums, plus an EP: 2005’s "The Whole Shebang", which displayed his early punk/garage rock roots; 2007's power pop tinged "Cut the Jive"; plus an Americana-influenced acoustic EP, "Either Sunset or Sunrise", which came out in August of 2008. The third album, "Whatever Forever and Ever", further expanded his sonic palette, and was released in May of 2009; it included a cover of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy". In 2012, the song "Bettie Page", from the album "The Whole Shebang", was featured in the documentary "Bettie Page Reveals All", directed by Academy Award Nominee, Emmy Award winning producer & director, Mark Mori, and narrated by the legendary Bettie Page herself. Paul Spencer's backing band, The Maxines, takes its name from the character portrayed by Catherine Keener, Maxine Lund, in Spike Jonze's 1999 cult classic, "Being John Malkovich".
