About Pangani

Sebastian Frisch aka. Pangani (Vienna, Austria) fuses psychedelic dub, storytelling and live electronics to construct sonic adventures. “Dubby Storytelling” Pangani calls the framework, in which he invites his audience to dive with him through a musical adventure. He melts big sonic spaces with deep bass-lines and other worldly melodies with morphing sound sculptures, into his unique way of psychedelic dub. The name Pangani is taken from the language Kiswahlili and means "place of spirits”. Traditional healers build their shrines often in such areas, to be surrounded by good energy, while following their practice. From 2007-2014, I spend a lot of my time in Kenya, where I set up art projects with people from slum areas around mombasa. During this time, africa burned its spirit deeply into myself and influenced my understanding on music massively. Frisch is interested in the areas of listening, sensing environments and the bioacoustics of plants. In his work as researcher, artist, musician and sound-designer, he uses a range of media technologies to explore the poetic connections between digital and the palpable materials. Frisch sees himself as a storyteller, who invites his audience to perceive his research as sensory experiences. Frisch studied Sound Art and Computer Science at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and graduated from the ArtScience Master’s programme at the Royal Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, in 2014.
