Opium Warlords is a drone/avant garde metal band from Lohja, Finland, founded in 2004 by Sami Albert Hynninen of Reverend Bizarre, The Puritan and The Candles Burning. The band's name was taken from a biography of Dee Dee Ramone. The band has had various collaborators, but the key line-up remains Hynninen on strings, percussion, fx, voice, songwriting and production, Erkki Virta on drums, Laura Länsimäki on keyboards and Jouni Leppikangas on co-production, programming and additional strings. Bands music has elements of heavy metal, sludge, doom metal, black metal, progressive rock, noisecore, noise, gothic rock, march music, minimalism, ambient, neoclassicism, industrial music alternative rock and neofolk. Lyrically they deal with apocalypse, nihilism, sadism, suicide, violence, mysticism, perversion, war, misanthropy, suffering, religion, and mental health. The lyrics often contain a pinch of sarcasm or irony. The first album Live At Colonia Dignidad was released by Cobra Records, in 2009. All the other albums have come out from Svart Records.
