About OBIE TRICE

Obie Trice III (born November 14, 1977) is an American rapper. He signed with Eminem's Shady Records, an imprint of Interscope Records, in 2000 and released his first two albums, "Cheers" (2003) and "Second Round's on Me" (2006). Both albums reached the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart. "Cheers" included the singles "Got Some Teeth" and "The Set Up (You Don’t Know)" produced by Dr. Dre and featuring Nate Dogg. After leaving Shady Records, Trice founded his own record label, Black Market Entertainment, through which he released the albums "Bottoms Up" (2012), "The Hangover" (2015), and "The Fifth" (2019). Trice was born and raised on the west side of Detroit, Michigan, by his mother, Eleanor Trice, along with three brothers. He is of African American and German descent. At the age of 11, he received a karaoke machine from his mother, which he used to practice rhyming over instrumentals from artists such as N.W.A. By 14, he began attending rap battle gatherings in Detroit, including the Hip Hop Shop, which were hosted by Proof from D12. Positive audience feedback encouraged him to pursue rap more seriously. Early in his career, Trice used the name "Obie 1" as a reference to the Star Wars character Obi-Wan Kenobi. Proof later introduced him at the Hip Hop Shop using his real name, Obie Trice, which became his professional stage name. He was introduced to Eminem through D12 member Bizarre, and his manager later arranged a meeting and attendance at a Kid Rock party with Eminem.
