To many, a name is a label for a human, thing, place, product (as in a brand name) and even an idea or concept, normally used to distinguish one from another. The name “No Scope” however, can imply many things. Perhaps the name can reference a skillful shooting of a sniper rifle without the use of a scope. Or the conundrum presented by not having mouthwash, or the inability to gaze upon the cosmos. To the band No Scope, the name implies one idea: getting pwned. Ah, alas, what is getting “pwned” you might ask? Pwn or pwned, is a slang term that implies domination and/or humiliation of a rival. It sprang from the similar term "owned" and is used primarily to taunt an opponent that has just been soundly defeated. Examples include "pwnage" or "you just got pwned". No Scope’s goal however as a performance group of musicians is not one to wish harm upon its loyal fans, as in the term “pwned” for defeat. Rather, it’s one of entertainment and fun, meaning that while moshing in the pit at a No Scope venue, you sufficiently got pwned and had a blast. Emerging from the western Fort Worth region, No Scope’s determination to pwn others strives from trying to differentiate itself from the typical music scene found around them. Where too many others aim to be the heaviest, most brutal bands, or hail Pantera/Dimebag as the greatest coming of the messiah, No Scope mixes a fine blend of metal/funk/rock/ and pointless-other-subgenres, to try to bring a fresh musical score to Fort Worth listeners. No Scope is enjoyable rock/metal, that doesn’t try to take itself too seriously, because honestly there are too many others doing that and can do it better. So, what’s in a name? No Scope: continuing to pwn n00bzors.
