About Namur
Namur is David Ahlén, a Swedish fellow with a taste for reverb, distortion and sweetly sung lyrics. Taking note of the obvious influences here (My Bloody Valentine, Ulrich Schnauss, M83, Slowdive), the albums also pillages a large amount of its sound from the guitar noise-pop of Khonnor or even Fennesz – and its a strategy that works wonders. The most obvious stylistic reference would be Khonnor’s ‘Handwriting’ album, which had pop and experimental fans in tearful union – yet Namur also has something for the Radiohead, Sigur Ros or U2 fan, with that stadium grandeur which occasionally permeates proceedings. Standout track ‘Marching’ combines the best of all these influences to come up with something haunting and magical that wouldn’t sound out of place blasting out of your mobile phone on a crowded bus. ‘Songs From the Valley of Baca’, his second album, is a dream pop album that truly lives up to the genre’s name...
