About Miel Cools

Miel Cools (born Herk-de-Stad, Belgium, 15 April 1935 - died Hasselt, Belgium, 01 June 2013) was a singer/songwriter from the Flemish part of Belgium. He used to record songs in Dutch/Flemish and play acoustic folk guitar. Cools performed and recorded as early as in the mid-1950s, but became an overnight success in Flanders and The Netherlands in 1965 with his single Boer Bavo and his self-titled début LP. He continued to write, record and perform 'til 2007-2008 and had a loyal following in the Low Countries. In 2007, the 75 year-old 'troubadour' had a domestic accident: he fell down the stairs and woke up from a coma six weeks later. He then decided to retire as a singer/songwriter. Miel Cools passed away, 78 years old, on June 1st, 2013.
