About Midlife
Formed in 2023 in Lyon, MIDLIFE is a French trio bringing together members of projects such as Sofy Major, Alabaster, Fugues and Orgueil. Drawing on a shared background in heavy and experimental music, the band channels that experience into a more restrained yet equally intense sound. MIDLIFE explores themes associated with midlife in a world where crisis no longer waits for a specific age. Their music maintains a strong sense of tension while moving away from the overt aggression of their previous projects—less distortion, fewer shouted vocals, but no loss of impact. Each track carries a feeling of fragility, poised between collapse and eruption. Rooted in the 1990s without relying on nostalgia, MIDLIFE’s sound retains only a subtle trace of noise rock. Creative drumming, incisive bass lines and melodic, chorus-treated guitar—often approaching the texture of a synthesizer—open the music toward no wave, post-punk and understated dub influences.
