Mickey 3D (or using the correct capitalisation miCkey[3d] as per the band's own website) formed in 1997 in Saint-Étienne, France, an old mining and industrial town located near Lyon. This might explain the politically charged lyrics of their songs. Three members started the band: Mickaël Furnon, Aurélien Joanin, and Najah El Mahmoud. The style of the band can best be described as folk rock. Mickael has written many songs for other bands, most notably "J'ai demandé à la lune" for Indochine.
