Michael McGoldrick & John McSherry was the pairing of flute and tin whistle player Michael McGoldrick and Uilleann pipes and tin whistle player John McSherry. The pair released "At First Light" in 2001. McGoldrick (b. 1971, Manchester, UK) is a flute and tin whistle player. He is widely seen as one of the greatest living players of Irish music on the flute. He also plays the uilleann pipes. He has been a member of several influential bands and is in great demand as a guest musician. In 1994 he won the BBC Young Tradition Award, and in 2001 he was given the Instrumentalist of the Year award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. McGoldrick formed the band Fluke! (later renamed "Flook"). He was an early member of Lúnasa and played on their first two albums. He joined Capercaillie in 1997, has played regularly for Afro-Celt Sound System and the Kate Rusby Band and has his own Michael McGoldrick Band. McSherry is an Irish musician who plays the Uilleann pipes and tin whistle. He is known for being a founding member of Lunasa and has performed on recordings by a number of well-known artists in Irish traditional music. McSherry is hailed as one of the finest exponents of the art of Uilleann piping in the world today. His sense for improvisation has even been compared to that of the great Jazz legend John Coltrane.
