About Michael Chikuzen Gould
Michael Gould studied shakuhachi (Japanese traditional end blown bamboo flute) in Japan under the renowned masters Taniguchi Yoshinobu and Yokoyama Katsuya from 1982 to the present. He earned his Shihan (Master of shakuhachi) degree in 1987 and was awarded the honorary name “Chikuzen” (from the kanjii for bamboo and concentration). In 1994 he achieved the rank of Dai Shihan (Grand Master). He has performed throughout Japan and the United States and teaches shakuhachi.
