About Mekdes
Mekdes Vinholt Pedersen known mononymously as Mekdes, is a Danish–Ethiopian singer, songwriter, and producer born in 1998 in Ethiopia, but at the age of eight months was adopted into a family in the small southern Jutland town of Starupin. On November 2025, Vinholt announced on an Instagram video that he was transgender. (*Older sources may still use she/her) At the age of 19 or 20, when Vinholt began his music career working with a team of producers, he decided to turn them down and instead write, produce and perform his own songs. Vinholt has been nominated for several awards in the Danish music industry, including his win at DR P3's Guld, was named as "The Talent" for 2021 and featured alongside URO to release the song "Føles Godt" in 2023, which has since received triple-platinum certification from IFPI Danmark.
