Maher Zain (Arabic: ماهر زين) (born March 16, 1981) is a Swedish R&B singer, songwriter and music producer of Lebanese origin. He also resided for a while in the United States. His debut album Thank You Allah, with 13 songs and two bonus tracks was released on 1 November 2009, with an exclusive Percussion Version and a French Version released shortly afterwards. He sings mainly in English, but also, amongst others, in French, Arabic, Urdu, Turkish, Indonesia and Malay. PADI was originally one of the campus bands in Airlangga University (Unair), Surabaya, Indonesia. Formed in 1996 they were called Soda before eventually dubbed as Padi. Padi is Indonesian for “rice”. It was not only inspired by the philosophy of rice, which bows even further down when ripen, a symbol for modesty. But also by the fact that it is Indonesian staple food that everybody could enjoy. From peasants, little kids, to the executives. Padi’s lineup consisted of Andi Fadly Arifuddin (Fadly, vocalist), Surendro Prasetyo Yoyok, drummer), Satriyo Yudhi Wahono (Piyu, guitarist), Ari Tri Sosianto (Ari, guitarist), and Rindra Risyanto Noor (Rindra, bassist). Throughout 12 years of their career, Padi have released 5 albums. - Lain Dunia (1999) - Sesuatu Yang Tertunda (2001) - Save My Soul (2003) - Padi (2005) - Tak Hanya Diam (2007) They also contributed in several compilations.
