Margaret Elizabeth Lindemann (born July 21, 1998) is an American singer-songwriter. She is known for her 2016 single "Pretty Girl", which reached number 4 in Sweden, number 6 in Ireland, and number 8 in both the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. After its release, she moved toward a more alternative musical style. She released her debut EP "Paranoia" in 2021, followed by her debut album "Suckerpunch" on September 16, 2022. Lindemann was born on July 21, 1998, in Dallas, Texas, into a German-Scottish family. She began sharing recordings of her singing on the social media platforms Tumblr and Keek, gaining an online following through these and other accounts. She began her professional music career after her manager, Gerald Tennison, discovered a video of her singing on Instagram. She later moved to Los Angeles to pursue music. Lindemann released her debut single "Knocking on Your Heart" in September 2015, followed by "Couple of Kids" on October 30, 2015, and "Things" on January 29, 2016. The music video for "Things" was released on her YouTube channel on February 5, 2016. On September 29, 2016, she released "Pretty Girl" as her first single after signing with 300 Entertainment. The song later peaked at number 50 on US pop radio charts and reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart. Lindemann stated that the song was intended to address perceptions about appearance and emphasize personal qualities beyond looks. The music video for "Pretty Girl" premiered through People on March 9, 2017. She featured on The Vamps' single "Personal", released on October 13, 2017. In March 2019, she supported Sabrina Carpenter on the North American leg of the Singular Tour and also opened for The Vamps and Madison Beer on her Life Support Tour in 2021. In 2020, she released the singles "Knife Under My Pillow", "Gaslight!", "Scissorhands", and "Loner". These songs, along with additional tracks, were included on her debut EP "Paranoia", released on January 22, 2021. The EP received attention from Alternative Press, which noted her blending of genres and incorporation of rock and metal influences, as well as her role in maintaining elements of emo music. Lindemann has cited Avril Lavigne as an influence on the EP, particularly on the song "Knife Under My Pillow". Her song "Crash and Burn" was selected as Radio.com's Alternative Pick of the Week from March 20 to March 27, 2021, and became her first entry on the Mediabase radio chart, peaking at number 33. She also hosts a podcast titled "swixxzaudio", named after her record label founded in 2020. The podcast, which began on April 20, 2020, includes discussions about her music and the production of "Paranoia". On April 15, 2022, Lindemann announced the second single from her debut album "Suckerpunch", titled "How Could You Do This to Me", featuring Kellin Quinn of Sleeping with Sirens. The single was released on April 29, 2022, and had been performed live while she was supporting Madison Beer in 2021. The album was announced the same day and released on September 16, 2022. Earlier singles from the album included "She Knows It" (October 2021), "Break Me!" featuring Siiickbrain (June 3, 2022), "You're Not Special" (July 15, 2022), and "Self Sabotage" (August 12, 2022). Lindemann has stated that the release of her debut album took several years due to dissatisfaction with earlier material and changes in her artistic direction, including a shift away from her earlier pop-oriented image.
