Maarten van Roozendaal was a Dutch singer and songwriter from Heiloo. He gained fame when he won the kleinkunst festival in 1994. Maarten van Roozendaal's tone oozes heavy melancholy, but not in a depressing way and his songs usually result in a smile. Recurring themes are love, death, idiots savants & alcohol. He accompanies himself on piano, used to play with Kim Soepnel on bass, nowadays Egon Kracht plays the bass, and Marcel de Groot plays guitar. His last theater show 'Barmhart' was applauded by crytics, his new theater show 'het wilde westen' just had its premier. In february it became known that he was suffering a non-curable disease. He did not want people to pay attention to his illness and till the end he tried to be positive. He died on the first of July 2013 in the companion of his family.
