About M:G
M:G (born Maribel Gonzalez in San Francisco, California) is a freestyle/dance music singer from the ’90s. During her high school years, M:G joined her school choir where she not only developed her voice talent, but met fellow dance singer Angelina. In the spring of 1997, a demo of her singing a Madonna cover attracted the attention of a mixer at San Francisco radio station WiLD 94.9 who passed it on to Classified Records and was signed to the label the day after. During that same year, M:G released her debut single, “Make A Little Noise” which didn’t make any impact on the charts. In 1998, she released her follow-up single, “Sweet Honesty” which received overwhelming response at WiLD 9.49 and later became the most requested song on the station. The song peaked at #91 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, staying on the chart for 22 weeks. The success of “Sweet Honesty” led to M:G performing in California, Nevada and Texas; she has also performed with various artists such as Angelina, LL Cool J, Mase, INOJ, Kai, K-Ci & JoJo, Sylk-E. Fine, Tamia, Jon B., Voices of Theory, Nu Flavor, Zapp & Roger, Spanish Fly and Pinay. During that same year, M:G released her debut studio album, “Make a Little Noise” which didn’t make the charts. The follow-up single, “What Do You Remember?” peaked at #16 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart and #8 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, staying on the chart for 16 weeks. The last two singles released from the album: “Aphrodisiac” and “Think Twice” flopped on the charts. While M:G was touring, she completed her prerequisites for dental school. In 2002, she graduated from dental school as a registered dental hygenist. She met fitness trainer Chris LaLanne (the grand-nephew of fitness legend Jack LaLanne) in 2005 and later married him; together, they have two children: son Jackson and daughter Shayla. In 2008, M:G: left her full-time practice as a dental hygenist to open LaLanne Fitness Crossfit in San Francisco, California; the business closed down in 2020. She later dabbled in modeling, appearing in various magazines such as “FHM.” In 2012, she returned to her music career where she released two singles: “The End of the World” and “O Holy Night.” In December of 2013, M:G released the single, “Déjà Vu.” These days, she resides in Davis, California where she works as a makeup artist and is still registered as a dental hygenist. It’s unknown if she’s still active with her music career.
