About Luis Perdomo

Luis Perdomo (Caracas, 1971) is a Venezuelan pianist and composer based in New York City since 1993. He has recorded and performed with musicians such as Ravi Coltrane, Miguel Zenón, among others, playing a style between modern straight ahead and latin jazz. Perdomo has released several albums as a leader, most notably "Universal Mind" featuring double-bassist Drew Gress and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Influenced by his father's musical taste, Perdomo took piano lessons for several years with his jazz mentor Gerry Weil at the age of 10, after learning to play the piano he performed his first gigs of salsa music and latin music in the clubs from Venezuela, then he moved to New York where auditioned for the Manhattan School of Music and got a scholarship. Perdomo also studied piano with Sir Roland Hanna at Queens College, with whom he did his master's degree. Since 2001, the career of Luis Perdomo has been very active, performing with well-known musicians and touring the U.S. and Europe.
