About Lone Ark

Lone Ark is the solo musical project of Roberto Sánchez, a producer, sound engineer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist from Cantabria, in northern Spain. His musical work is developed through three main platforms: 1. A-Lone Ark Muzik (Studio) A-Lone Ark Muzik is Roberto Sánchez’s recording studio, where he produces his own music as well as works by other artists and producers. Roberto began recording in 1997 with a group of friends under the name Better Collie, using a four-track recorder, releasing several demo recordings. In 1999, while in London, he acquired a 16-track recorder and started producing under the name Loud and Lone, alongside Borja Juanco. During this period, they released two showcase albums and a compilation CD (Better Collie and Loud and Lone – 1998–2001). In 2002, Roberto set up his own studio and released his first official work as Lone Ark, titled “Countryside”. From the very beginning, both the studio equipment and production approach have been focused on late-1970s roots sounds, with an emphasis on analog recording and mixing techniques. At A-Lone Ark Muzik, Roberto has produced and recorded works by numerous Spanish artists and groups, including Jahsta, We and Dem, Basque Dub Foundation, Dubby Ambassah’, Lone Lions, Dread Drive, among others, as well as all of his own productions released through A-Lone Productions. The studio’s mission is to keep the 1970s roots reggae sound and traditional recording techniques alive. 2. A-Lone Productions (Label) A-Lone Productions was founded in 1997 to release “The Same Wrong Thing”, the second album by Roberto Sánchez’s first band, Lone Watti. However, it was from 2004 onward that the label began operating more consistently and professionally. Today, the label releases all Lone Ark recordings and productions coming from the A-Lone Ark Muzik studio. Its catalog includes releases featuring artists such as Glen Washington, Alpheus, Earl Sixteen, Rod Taylor, Kenny Knots, Afrikan Simba, among others. The label’s main objective is to preserve the style and sound of 1970s roots reggae, respecting the original recording techniques, instruments, and artistic approach. 3. Lone Ark & Lone Ark Riddim Force (Live Band) In 2003, Lone Ark began performing as a live band, with the aim of bringing the studio productions to the stage. Prior to this, Roberto Sánchez had been involved in various reggae projects since 1995, including Lone Watti, Loud and Lone, Better Collie, Vibes All Stars, Basque Dub Foundation, Super Ape, and Dub Generation. In addition to his own work, Lone Ark also functions as a backing band for artists such as Earl Sixteen, Kiddus I (alongside Earl “Chinna” Smith), Alpheus, and others. Roberto has also worked as a sound engineer or musician (keyboards, bass, and guitar) with bands backing artists such as The Heptones, Big Youth, Alton Ellis, Bitty McLean, U-Brown, Anthony Johnson, and Kenny Knots. The mission of Lone Ark Riddim Force as a live band is to keep the authentic 1970s roots reggae sound alive on stage — no synthetic horns or modern shortcuts.
