About Lirio

Is it possible to bring swing in traditional French and Flemish music? Lirio proves that it is, and that folk is alive and grooving! Enthusiastically they'll play their public the newest folkmusic, self- written or traditional tunes, arranged to a modern and grooving mix. Lirio consists of four musicians who find their inspiration especially at French and Flemish folkfestivals and dance-events. Violin, accordion and bagpipes provide the melodic arrangements, while guitar and double bass lay a strong rhythmical foundation. Their tunes and melodies are mostly coming from - or inspired by- the French, Flemish and Dutch traditional dance music, but profoundly influenced by nowadays pop-, roots-, and worldmusic. Within this mix they produce a unique style which gives an energetic and modern twist to traditional folkmusic. Lirio consists of: Wouter Kuyper: Bagpipes and accordeon Gerdien Smit: violin Sander van der Schaaf: gitar and percussion Fokke Jan Swart: contrabas Bram Jorissen: percussion
