About Lilac Sheer
Lilac was born October 26, 1981, in Petach Tikva, Israel, to Ron and Bitya, an Orthodox Jewish couple. As a child, Lilac was a quiet girl who thrived with an active imagination. She loved dressing up and playing pretend with her little sister Shani. The first song she wrote at the tender age of ten is still well-kept in one of her drawers. At the age of fifteen, Lilac began practicing art therapy as a way of dealing with different issues in her life. Therapy found a way into the child’s sensitive soul and opened a window into a bright, new, and stronger personality. “I was reborn through therapy,” she still says to this day. Throughout the procedure, Lilac had learned to know herself from the inside out, connecting body and soul through moving in space, analyzing dreams, writing, playing different instruments, and exploring new and creative ways of expression. Another instrument Lilac got to explore through therapy was her own voice. Between dancing, singing, and creating, she suddenly acknowledged her ability to make those old forgotten songs in her drawer actually come to life. From here, the road towards a musical career was inevitable. At 16, Lilac started practicing the classical Bel Canto singing technique with Maestro Daniel Amarillio and also started taking guitar lessons. That was a good time to start recording three original songs at a home studio for the first time but definitely not for the last time. Two years later, Lilac was chosen to write and direct the graduation song for her class’s graduation ceremony at Zeitleen, an Orthodox high school. The project then led to some further original material recordings, in a professional studio this time. Soon after, Lilac auditioned for the highly respected Israeli national army band. Despite having little experience, her clear voice and shining confidence earned her a spot in the prestigious air force band. Lilac completed her two years service through which she performed in bases all over the country, take part in some TV footage, and also acquire a great deal of stage experience and skill. She then decided to follow her childhood dream, picking up her guitar and moving to the first city of music, Los Angeles. Over a period of six months, Lilac joined different social networks online, stating “Hi, my name is Lilac and I am a singer/songwriter from Israel who’s moving to LA and wants to meet new people!” She actually met more than a few people who would later become her best friends. On July1, 2002, Lilac landed in Los Angeles. During her one year there, she spent every waking second promoting herself and her music, going on auditions, performing, recording, and spreading the word through battling loneliness, feeling homesick, and facing day to day tribulations of being an alien in a foreign country. She managed to make some impressive developments, recording three new tracks and performing at well-known clubs such as The Cat Club, The Lava Lounge, and Level One. After a grueling year and relentless unsuccessful attempts to receive an American work visa, Lilac decided to try living in London which she did for a month before returning to Israel exhausted and disenergized. It was time to be back home to be with the people you love, regroup, and refocus. The year in LA was a very tough one, filled with confusion and uncertainty. A break was definitely needed, some space to ask questions and make decisions for the future. Lilac moved into a small studio apartment in the center of Tel Aviv and started teaching Bel Canto. She also started working writing on new material, perfecting her vocals, and playing guitar. In 2005, Lilac recorded 12 of her new songs in Hebrew, in acoustic vocal and piano versions, most of which are part of her current show’s repertoire. Over the past year, Lilac has performed in different clubs in Tel Aviv, including the well-known “Barbie”. These days Lilac is working on her new and improved folk-rock acoustic act, and is about to release her first single and video.
