About Leila Albayaty

Leila Albayaty is a singer, composer, film and video director, actress, sound designer, painter and DJ. Half Iraqi, she was born in France. After studying music - the violin - and architecture in France, Leila Albayaty started at the IAD (Institut des Arts de Diffusion) Film School in Brussels. She left film school after some months to direct a documentary, “Vacances” (Holidays), a video log of a hitchhiking journey through southern Europe, a trailer without the car. In 2006, she brought out her first album, “Dans le soleil”, on the French label Stupid Competitions. It is a sensitive record, on the edge of pop, song writing and electronic music in which one discovers a world tinted with cinematographic atmospheres, at the same time melancholic, fragile, disturbing and modern. She then returned to filmmaking by shooting her first fiction short film, VU (Stempel Films), in Rome. A live concert of the movie was performed in 2009 with A. Paquotte, co-produced by Recyclart. VU premiered at Berlinale Shorts in 2009, where it received a special mention from the Jury. Leila Albayaty lives and works between Brussels and Berlin. In early 2012, she completed her first feature film, the musical docu-fiction "Berlin Telegram". Her second album, "Berlin Telegram Record", inspired by and retracing the musical encounters in the film, will appear soon. .................... myspace.com/leilaalbayaty leilaalbayaty.com
