About Larry Hosford
Larry Hosford, born Salinas, California 1943, died 2016, was a singer-songwriter in the genres of Americana and country western music. Hosford was a prolific writer of songs and occasionally compared with the style and twang of Willie Nelson. Hosford injected humor and endearing local references of his life in the Salinas Valley and Central Coast. He was proud of his Oklahoma roots, and of his hometown. Perhaps his best-known tune to locals is “Salinas.” In it he affectionately bridges the gap between two of the longstanding communities, saying that if you’re from this town you must be either an “Okie or Mexican.” Hosford also wrote a song about Rio Del Mar beach near Aptos and his “Home Run Willie” was about the return of San Francisco Giants legend Willie Mays to Candlestick Park since being traded to the New York Mets. He recorded at least four albums during his career – “Windjammin’ ” and “Crossroads,” “AKA Lorenzo” and “Right On Time.”
