About LaChanze
LaChanze attended the University of Arts in Philadelphia as a theater dance major where she landed a role as a tap dancer in an ensemble production of Uptown…It's Hot. After performing at the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City, LaChanze and the cast were off to Broadway. Since that fateful trip, she has starred in the Broadway productions of Once on This Island for which she received Tony and Drama Desk nominations, Ragtime and Company. Off-Broadway LaChanze has starred in Dessa Rose which brought Obie and Drama Desk Award nominations, The Vagina Monologues and The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin, for which she earned yet another Drama Desk nomination. Other theater credits include: Baby, From the Mississippi Delta, Spunk and the Alliance production of The Color Purple as Celie. Television credits include the CBS TV movie Lucy and guest starring roles on the hit shows Law & Order: SVU, Sex and the City, New York Undercover and The Cosby Show.
