About Klapa Fjaka

A traditional Dalmatian vocal group (klapa in Croatian) Fjaka was founded in Zagreb in 2003, with Mario Markovina as the conductor. The klapa mainly consists of members of the academic choir of the church Bazilika srca Isusova in Zagreb “Palma”, from which various other renowned klapa singers and other singers originated. It was founded to promote Dalmatian vocal singing (klapa singing), and to cherish Croatian cultural heritage. However, the main reason was the pleasure and joy we felt about klapa singing. FJAKA participated at the festivals of klapa singing in Omiš in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2005 in Bol on island of Brač we won the first prize as the best debut klapa – the audience award, and second best debut klapa – the jury award. In 2006 at the 40th jubilee festival in Omiš FJAKA won the second audience award. Along with the mentioned festivals, we had performances at various other events, in Croatia and abroad. We also participated at various common klapa concerts and projects in Zagreb. The result is that klapa FJAKA, apart from this CD, may be found at the three additional compilation CDs of Zagreb klapas: Na klapski način, Došli smo Vam kolendati II and Pisme o’ vrimena. Beside our first conductor Mario Markovina, klapa cooperated with Tomislav Meštrić, Krešimir Magdić and Srđan Berdović, whose support and effort helped us to record the material for our first CD.
