"Welcome to the New World" is Karl Stephen Brunig's first fully produced musical effort blending Blues, Pop, and Americana with unabashed spiritual lyrics reflecting his Christian walk. A resident of Houston, Texas, Karl’s music reflects the rich musical textures of the Gulf Coast. The song, "Where is God?" (The Katrina song,) was inspired by his work with evacuees of New Orleans as they arrived in Houston. Also notable, is an acoustic Blues version of "Amazing Grace" featuring a genuine Texas rainstorm. The album was mastered at “The Vault” in Houston, by Dave Williams, a former resident of New Orleans and a Katrina refugee. Born in Syracuse, New York, Karl sang in church choirs and studied classical piano. His songwriting was heavily influenced by Billy Joel and always told a colorful story. At age 15 he started a series of rock bands either fronting as lead singer or playing organ, piano, and synthesizers. Later on, living in southern Pennsylvania, he was writing Gospel-tinged ballads and commercial radio jingles. 1993 turned out to be a watershed year for Karl Stephen Brunig. He finished his Music Production degree at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York and co-produced "Easter Island Vacation" by the popular Ska band, Conehead Buddha. Karl went on to start Mighty Rushing Wind Recording Studios and produced a series of regional artists such as the young Christian band "Revolution," and the Jewel-like Phoebe Henry who later opened for Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden.
