About Karin Nelson
Karin Nelson (born September 4, 1960 in Boviken, Sweden) is a Swedish professor of organ and organ interpretation. Her father was a self-taught cantor in Boviken. Karin Nelson first studied piano with the organist in Skellefteå country church, Bengt-Arne Harlin, then to become a music teacher and church musician at the music academies in Piteå and Gothenburg and completed her diploma training in Gothenburg and studied in organ and harpsichord at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. Nelson has been organist at Hagakyrkan, teacher at the church musician education in Gothenburg and professor of organ and organ improvisation at the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg. Since 2013 she is a professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. She received her PhD in 2010 with the thesis Improvisation and Pedagogy through Heinrich Scheidemann's Magnificat Settings which deals with the cause of notation in northern Germany during the 1600s when organists were otherwise mainly known for their ability to improvise. In addition to concerts in Sweden and abroad, she has made a number of radio and CD recordings. She is married to organ builder Karl Nelson.
