About Karen y Los Remedios
Singer-songwriter and arts researcher Ana Karen Barajas has just released a new single through her project Karen y Los Remedios, which she shares with producer jiony, within which they experiment with cumbia in avant-garde formats. The song is titled ‘Canario’, and it is a sample of the evolution of a sound that is quite difficult to classify. They introduced it earlier this year on the EP Plexo Lunar (2020). It is a project whose rhythmic base is cumbia, but that takes up elements of trip-hop and techniques of harmonizing techno, with subtle electronic details around its main melody, which is sung by Ana under a dream-pop-like production, a little reverberant in its whispers. Like their first release, this song was released through the Shika Shika label, which specializes in musical projects that merge avant-garde electronic music with Latin American tradition.
