About Joseph Sullinger, guitar
Currently living in Mexico, guitarist Joseph Sullinger is exploring new territories for his instrumental guitar music. On his third solo album Earth Voyage, Joseph created a unique world fusion sound combining classical, latin, and nuevo flamenco styles. It has an oceanic travel theme and performances by members of the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra. Joseph’s strong song writing abilities and intricate guitar work accompanied by exotic percussion and other instruments make Earth Voyage an intriguing album with an eclectic world music flavor. In 2007 Joseph began recording solo instrumental albums. The first two were Popular Classical Guitar, released by Eroica Classical Recordings in 2008, and Classical Guitar Christmas Favorites of 2010. Joseph’s music has been featured on two episodes of the Emmy nominated and Peoples Choice Award winning television series The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan and spotlighted on the radio program El Mundo de la Guitarra (World of the Guitar) in Mexico. Following the release of Classical Guitar Christmas Favorites, Joseph performed 31 Christmas concerts in the U.S.A. Joseph began playing guitar at age six and gave his first public solo performance the same year in a school Christmas concert. His mother Julia was a concert pianist, music teacher, and choir director and his father Dwight is principal tuba player for the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra and teaches music at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and Ollin Yoliztli School. By the age of 12 Joseph was writing original compositions and by 13 had formed his first rock group performing mainly original music. From the early 90´s until 2005 Joseph was a major player in the Dallas Texas music scene. Known then by the nickname CJ, he worked as a studio musician and member of several bands including Strangers, Endangered Species and Wumb. He has performed in concert line ups with national acts including Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath, Poison, Dokken, Slaughter, Cinderella, and Kings X. Joseph relocated to Mexico in 2006 and began teaching classical guitar as well as performing in restaurants, lounges, and special events as a soloist. He also formed an acoustic duet that performed live for four years and worked in three other bands playing guitar and singing in English and Spanish. Joseph is available internationally for live performance and during the holiday season he performs a “Classical Guitar Christmas”.
