About Joey Love and the Blues Xpress
Joey Love began playing guitar at the age of 5 and was influenced by a variety of music from Country, Bluegrass, Rock and Motown. This Pennsylvania native made his was to Texas in 1979 and it was there that he met a long time friend who introduced him to Blues. Songs from The Fabulous Thurderbirds, Hound Dog Taylor and a variety of Texas Blues artists consumed his playlist and it was a sound that quickly struck a home in his heart. To date Joey has 2 independent release CD’s, has been reviewed in National publications, had an original song featured on a CD which was distributed with SPIN Magazine, headlined festivals and continues to be one of the area’s premier guitarists. In 2001 Joey joined forces with an already established guitarist (Texas Slim) and formed the Love Machine bringing sizzling duo electric guitar based music back to the DFW music scene. With the Love Machine they opened for the likes of Johnny Winter, Kim Simmons/Savoy Brown, Blue Oyster Cult as well as being feature in a National TV Commercial for Famous Dave’s BBQ. Fast forward to 2011 and Joey is stepping out on his own playing shows while fronting his own band . He was the cover/feature artist in the 2011 March/April edition of Southwest Blues Magazine which highlighted his career to date. In 2012 Joey performed as the only local artist at the 2012 Allen Blues Festival along with Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Randolph and more… he continues to blanket the DFW area with his music as well as working on new original material for his next release which he states “This will be my most profound music to date, I’m having fun just writing music and not trying to put myself into any category, I think people will be surprised with the outcome from my next release which seems to be taking on an interesting direction”. Joey Love is a versatile artist playing material from a variety of Genre’s including Blues, Zydeco, Classic Rock and Country. He is also a member and band leader for the Wanda King Blues Band. Wanda is the daughter of the legendary Freddie King (Freddie was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in May 2012). Joey performs on Wanda’s upcoming 2012 Release as well as having co-writing credits and playing bass on a song. During his role with Wanda king he has shared the bill with the likes of Etta James, The Blues Brothers (Dan Akroyd,Jim Belushi), Bobby Blue Bland, Hubert Sumlin and many more… Aside from fronting his own band, playing with Texas Slim and Wanda King, Joey also supports a variety of different bands around town including a country artist and a variety show band… in the end he just loves to play music and it shows in each and every performance.
