About Jerry Doucette
Jerry Doucette (born Jerry Victor Doucette in Montreal, Quebec, on 9 September 1951; died April 18, 2022) was a Canadian guitarist and singer-songwriter. As Doucette, he is noted for the 1977 hit single "Mama Let Him Play", which made the US Billboard Top 100. The 2001 compilation "Most Memorable Works" is credited to Jerry Doucette but should be Doucette. Doucette began playing the guitar at the age of six after his father purchased one for him. Doucette joined numerous bands prior to his solo career, starting with The Reefers at the age of 11. At the age of twenty , he moved to Toronto and played in the final incarnation of Brutus. He moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1972 and joined the Seeds of Time. He subsequently signed a solo recording deal with Mushroom Records, and commenced recording as Doucette. Initially Doucette included drummer Duris Maxwell, bassist Don Cummings, guitarists Brent Shindel and Jimmy Butler, and keyboardist Mark Olson. After the third album, "Coming Up Roses", in 1981, there was a fifteen-year hiatus until the Doucette comeback album "Price Of An Education" in 1995.
