Jebel, a Columbia, SC-based band, was most active from 1993 to 1997 releasing two recordings, including their self-titled CD in ’96. Jebel began as a three piece, with founding members Peter Knight on drums, Nolan Mecham on bass and Bryan Wade on guitar and vocals. With a grant from The Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties, Jebel made its first recording within six months of forming, originally just to have a recording to give to friends after Peter Knight left for the mid-west. However, after hearing bootlegged copies of their cassette being played at parties around town, Mecham and Wade decided to re-form the band with then local drummer, David Kelly, and officially release the cassette. David Kelly left for graduate school after a year with Jebel, and recommended Stan Gardner, who replaced David Kelly on the drums. With donated goods and services from 6 local bands and performers, 3 local restaurants, 2 beverage distributors, a theater organization, a recording studio and a bar, Jebel raised enough money to release their eponymous CD in ’96. After the release of the CD, Jebel wanted to expand its musical palette and asked Les Hall to join the group on Hammond B-3 organ. The only recordings of this line-up are from the last show that Jebel played as a full-time group on February 3rd, 1997.
